Mickey Buckwalter

Mickey has lived in the Asheville area for 9 years. She relocated here while she was staying with a friend in Winston-Salem and visited Asheville. "It just felt right to be here instead of traveling the rest of the year in my van as I had planned."

Mickey has traveled to almost 40 countries around the globe, mainly in Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Nepal, Myanmar, and India are a few of her favorite countries that she has visited, but it is difficult to choose.  Mickey's dream trip would be to begin in Bhutan and travel on to Pakistan, Jordan, and continue traveling for a year to other countries she hasn't yet been to.

The personal achievement that she is most proud of is having one of her drawings accepted into a juried art exhibit. "The judge said it had touched his heart and he knew it had to be there."

If Mickey could meet anyone, she would like to meet the Dalai Lama. She is inspired by by his philosophy. "He is so full of life and lives what he believes. Peace only comes about by non-violence."

Mickey has been volunteering with Ten Thousand Villages since 1999. She has spent several years on the board and in the store. Mickey believes in what the store stands for. The store allows those in most need to earn a living with dignity and provide a better life for their children.

Mickey also is active in the Circle of Care and Service Team at Jubilee! which helps to rebuild homes and lives in New Orleans and Habitat for Humanity here in Asheville.  She also has photo exhibits and gives slide presentations sharing  her experiences traveling and how other parts of the world and cultures live.  Check out her website at:

Akron Updates

August New Items Video
Anticipate the changing seasons with August New Items. Products are designed in the warm browns and soft greens of late summer to prepare us for the transition to autumn. Personal Accessories gently shift from the casual playful colors and forms of summer into products more appropriate for the workplace; the Ten Thousand Villages version of "back-to-school". Home Accents are part of the Verde Collection, formally Green Spice, and bring the outdoors indoors, by featuring natural materials in products that will create a natural haven inside your customers home. Enjoy promoting this extraordinary collection of products from the hands of artisans to the hands of your customers.

Three Cups of Tea Volunteer Book Club

In preparations for the Oriental Rug Event, many of us thought it would be fun to read Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time,
by David Oliver Relin  and  Greg Mortenson.
Anyone who is  interested in joining us in the reading of this fantastic book is welcome. Start reading anytime and we will probably talk it over during shifts over the next few months. As the Rug Event gets closer, we will set a time to meet for coffee and tea so we can all discuss the book together.

Happy Reading!!

World Caravan Sale

 August 28th-September 8th

 Sale Flyer

We know just how much our volunteers love the End Of Summer SALE. Come and help with the organization of  the discontinued and slightly damaged merchandise and get a sneek preview  of what will be in the sale.

We will need volunteers on Monday, August 25th and Tuesday, August 26th to help pull merchandise off of shelves, unpack boxes that have been in storage, and place orange sale stickers on all sale merchandise.

We will have a separate sign-up sheet at the store for these days. Please let us know if you can help out on either of these days!
